Student Driving Permissions/Updates

Posted Date: 8/21/25 (5:00 PM)

Good afternoon, Class of 2027 Families-

I hope you all have had a great summer so far. We are looking forward to welcoming your child back to school on September 4th! I want to bring to your attention some changes to our driving permissions here at Saranac. In the past, juniors and seniors with a license have been able to apply for driving privileges and a parking permit here on campus. Due to our increasing number of enrollments, we are only extending driving privileges to seniors for the start of the school year. Once our seniors are accounted for, should there be any remaining spots in the student only designated parking sections, we will then extend the privileges to our juniors on a case-by-case basis. More information about this process will be forthcoming after we work through issuing our seniors their permits/designated spots. However, this is expected to take the first few weeks of school, so we appreciate your patience.

Please note that the reason we are here is because unfortunately, we do not have enough space in the parking lot to accommodate everyone. Our enrollment has increased each year, and we have faculty/staff members that need parking spaces as well. Last year, we ran into a lot of congestion and multiple minor accidents in the lot, which quickly became a safety concern. You will also notice that the parking lot is now numbered, this is because all spots are all accounted for whether it be for faculty/staff or senior drivers. Every driver/car is now issued a parking pass and a designated parking spot for the year which will be overseen by administration and our school resource officer. As I mentioned above, once we have solidified senior parking, more information will be forthcoming, and we will communicate that process with our juniors after the first few weeks of school.

We thank you for your patience as we work through the first leg of driving permissions and appreciate your support with reiterating these expectations to your child. Finally, given spots are now accounted for, if you find yourself picking up students or dropping them off in the morning or afternoon, please continue to follow the traffic pattern and do not just park anywhere as faculty/staff also have designated parking spots assigned to them. We appreciate your help with this matter. In the meantime, enjoy the remaining weeks of summer with your child and we look forward to welcoming them back into the building in September!
