Spartan Attendance Update

Saranac High School

December 1, 2025
Attendance Matters
At Saranac High School, we believe that showing up every day is the first step toward success. Daily attendance builds strong habits, keeps students connected to their learning, and helps them thrive academically and socially. That’s why we’ve set a school-wide goal of achieving 95% attendance again this year!
Let’s continue to work together—students, families, and staff—to make everyday matter. Success begins by showing up!

Important Reminders

Parent/guardians must notify the school as soon as possible regarding their child's absence(s). The district requires students to provide parent/guardian documentation, within two school days, providing the dates and reason for the absence itself. Failure to provide documentation within two days will result in the absence to be coded as "unexcused." Additionally, excuse notes can be submitted by parents/guardians via Parent Square.

Class Absences

Students are expected to attend all scheduled classes. Consistent with the importance of classroom participation, unexcused absences may affect the percentage of a student’s class participation grade relative to the whole grade for the marking period. A student who misses class for any reason must communicate with the teacher (in person or via Schoology) to make up any missed assignments. Make up opportunities must be completed by a date specified by the student’s teacher for the class in question. The time frame will range from 1-10 days or the end of the quarter, whichever comes first.

Students are expected to:
  1. contact their teachers for missed work immediately upon the student’s return from an absence.
  2. provide teachers with advance notification of an excused absence due to school-related (e.g., music lessons, field trips) for work to be provided.
At the high school level, any student with more than 9 unexcused absences in a semester course (half year) or more than 18 unexcused absences in a full year course will result in a student not receiving credit for the course.
