Cell Phone and Social Media Monitoring

Posted Date: 04/15/26 (04:14 PM)

Good evening, Saranac Families-

As social media continues to play a major role in our children’s daily lives, we are seeing an increase in conflicts that often begin online and carry over into school and personal relationships. Many of these situations stem from misunderstandings, impulsive posts, or a lack of awareness about the long-term impact of digital behavior.
Now more than ever, it is important for parents and guardians to have ongoing, open conversations with their children about safe and responsible social media use. This includes discussing appropriate communication, the importance of thinking before posting, respecting others online, and understanding that digital actions can have real-world consequences.
Parental supervision and guidance are key. Monitoring usage, setting clear expectations, and encouraging positive online behavior can help prevent conflicts before they start. We strongly encourage families to regularly check in with their children about their online activity, review social media platforms together, and ensure privacy settings are appropriate. Having access to and periodically monitoring your child’s phone is not about invading privacy—it is about ensuring their safety and helping them navigate an increasingly complex digital world.
When families and schools work together, we can create a safer, more respectful environment for all students—both online and offline. Thank you for your continued support in helping our students make responsible choices.
